This moist chocolate cake is rich, fudgy, and irresistibly soft with a silky smooth chocolate ganache frosting. Made with cocoa powder, dark chocolate, and simple pantry ingredients, this easy homemade chocolate cake is perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or when you’re craving a decadent dessert. The hot water in the batter makes the cake extra moist and bakery-style delicious every time!

Step by step method
Step 1

Prepare Batter: In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add sugar, egg, oil, and milk. Mix until smooth. Pour in hot water gradually and whisk until the batter is thin and lump-free.

Step 2

Bake the Cake: Grease and line a 7"x7" baking pan. Pour in the batter and bake at 180°C for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.

Step 3

Make Ganache Frosting: Heat heavy cream until warm (do not boil). Pour over chopped dark chocolate. Let sit for 2–3 minutes. Stir until smooth and glossy.

Step 4

Assemble: Spread ganache evenly over cooled cake. Refrigerate for 20 minutes to set before slicing.

  • Add 1 tsp coffee powder in hot water to enhance chocolate taste.
  • For extra moistness, brush cake layers with warm sugar syrup before frosting.
